Bhagirath Samai (born 11 August 1957), in Asansol, West Bengal, India is an India professional Shooter and a bronze medalist in 1986 Asian games he was one of the shooters of West Bengal who represented India in Olympics (1984). for his outstanding performance in Asian games, he was awarded (ARJUNA AWARD) the most prestigious award in the field of sports he participated in 2 SAF games, 2 ASIAN games, 2 ASIAN championships, 2 Commonwealth Games and 1 Olympic
He is the member of Midnapore rifle club his last participation was in the year 1993 Saf games held in Dhaka, Bangladesh his career best performance was in the year 1991 Saf games where he won silver medal he retired in the year 1993 after Saf games to give way to younger generation
Early years:– Bhagirath Samai was born in Asansol and he is the youngest in his brothers.he said that he took shooting reluctantly and later he falls in love with the sport he was dedicated to the sport so he never cares life apart from it.
He got engaged to Rina Samai in the year 1991 and was married in the year 1992 his career best performance came right after he got engaged .this year (2017) they both celebrated 25th marriage anniversary. he also turns 60 years old this year .
Notable international performance:-
his best performance was in the year 1991 in SAF games held in Colombo, Srilanka games was FREE RIFLE 3P (M) in which he won silver medal his rating was 1118
his first participation came in the year 1982 (12th Commonwealth games) at the age of 25 he participated in 1982 and 1990 Commonwealth games he can’t take part in 1996 Commonwealth games because India quit that event.
Service career:
– He currently does service in a construction company in Haldia, leaving away from family.His wife and daughter live in Durgapur, he spends the weekend with the family that to not have surety as sometimes work load on him is high so he cants come to Durgapur. He was even not with his wife on the occasion of 25th marriage anniversary as work load on him is high in his company sometimes he cooks his own food and sometimes he has a cook for it. His wife sacrificed to be away from him and live in Durgapur just to educated her daughter her daughter is extremely good in many things ranging from singing, cooking, dancing, and coding.He has 3 4 years of service left and after his retirement, he wants to open a shooting academy in Durgapur.
About himself:– He is very calm person and disciplined .he wake early in the morning and go to bed early he always bring lot of sweets and gifts when he is visiting his home on occasion of festivals keeping in mind which sweets his family like most he always bring barfi as his daughter loves it most .he tries his best to fulfill his wife and daughter desire which ranges from printer to phone to holiday trip in hilly stations
